Getting ready for an MBA sometimes seems like a never-ending process due to the logistics and decisions involved. Getting the right MBA program depends heavily on the current status of the applicant, and his or her vision for the future. Not all MBA programs are relevant to the scholar. Not all MBA programs will suit every graduate. And not all MBA programs will guarantee the applicants career advancement. Then of course, there is the requirement of progressive working experience before application.
Education
To ensure eligibility for an MBA programme, the applicant has to ensure that he attains a bachelor’s degree with valid scores, preferably second class honors at the very least. If he or she does not achieve this, he or she may be required to do additional business courses or certification so as to be considered for a post graduate course.
Work Experience
This is a vital prerequisite. An individual with low academic qualifications but having a rich work experience stands greater chance of being selected for a desired MBA programme as compared with another who has excellent academic records against poor work experience. Work experience shows a person’s ability to apply the theoretical syllabus into practical application in the business environment.
Work experience also comes in handy even after successful completion of the post graduate program, because future employers base their decisions on this record. Therefore, a part time MBA student who holds a regular job will finish the course with better placement for the job, because work experience will have considerably progressed.
Proficiency
Basing on an individual’s performance at the industry level, he or she identifies key areas in which they are good performers. Once they establish their strengths, they can identify the course that is best suited for their talents. This way, learning the post graduate course is easier for the students because they learn what they have covered already in some way or the other.
Personal Choice
All in all, the decision to pursue an MBA rests with the applicant’s prerogative. Not everyone enrolls for MBA with the same aim. A person may apply for a post graduate course due to one or more of the following reasons;
- Personal desire to boost academic record
- To gain more knowledge in their field of career
- To stand better chance of advancing in the organization they work in.
- To have something to do in their spare time.
Whatever the reason, it will have a huge bearing on the outcome of the post graduate course.
Time
The applicant has to further identify the time he or she can set aside for the studies, the duration of the course and the schedule of the classes or lectures. He or she has to seek a balance between full time and part time classes so that they fit with his regular schedules and commitments. Further, a decision has to be made whether the applicant should take a 12 month full time course or a 15 to 30 month part time course.
